Business in Jordan!!

August 22nd, 2008

One of the hardest things you can do in Amman… is to open your own business. The reason is not due to financial issues or tuff competition. It is mainly because you will be consumed by small and silly obstacles that fills your time and delay your work..

The one day job takes a week, a week job takes a month and so on. Nothing is done on time. Your time became inefficient because you are not doing your job. You are trying to fix things around you to be able to do your job!!

The system is always against you. You cannot depend on people here, and no one respect time. We are masters of doing things wrong.

People here believe that if you make it here in Jordan, you can make it anywhere.. well I would say this simply bullshit, because we cannot do the right job on time. The word deadline is not in our dictionary.. If you made it here then you are already blended in this inefficient society and became one of them. Which means you cannot compete outside Jordan.

We are simply not capable of doing the right things with high quality and on time. Sorry if I seemed so aggressive but this is a harsh reality that we all should admit to be able to change it for a better business environment.

If anything, you sound so frustrated. I believe you have every right to be. From my personal experience I can say with a lot of authority you’re totally right
It’s no surprise that many of the companies have evolved to include a job for someone who will take care of these things for them (or Mokhalles), someone who’s paid to have the heart attack on your behalf while they run from one place to the other begging clerks to just do their job! While praising them for all the wonders they’ve done which can also be done by a monkey.
Khalleeha 3ala Allah … And best of luck to you .. tawwel balak

I *HATE* busy work! I hate it with a fashion. I hate all the little stupid things that get in your way and you have to do so that you can do your job, but you end up having no time to do your job. I feel your pain dude, and good luck in your endeavor.

What is it exactly that is frustrating you ? (so we can be forewarned)

hehehe .. i meant to say “i hate it with a passion” .. and instead it came out “i hate it with a fashion” .. i guess that will be a new catch phrase … if you squint hard enough .. it’ll work :-)

man, sometimes or most of the times, paying for someone to do the shitty stuff does not work… the problem is without you getting dirty in the mud things are not done…

on the other hand instead of paying your money to good talents, you pay it for people to do shitty stuff for you!!! what a business life
